Do you have flowers in your apartment or maybe trees in your backyard? If you do, then you might be interested in this website! Well, if you know Chinese, of course…
Zaohuayuan.com is a Chinese startup aiming to form a DIY community for people who are interested in growing plants and gardening. We’ve never worked with Chinese market before, so it sounded pretty challenging, but we knew Drupal was just the right thing for multilingual websites and the challenge was accepted!
Rich content DIYs
The most important part of the project was developing an easy to use interface for the creation of DIYs. We have configured two DIY content types to cover growing tips for plants and gardens and applied compex theming to creation forms. Using these forms users can add multiple steps and several actions in a step, specify a list of required parts and upload pictures by simply drag & dropping them into corresponding action.
There are two types of users, those who love to share ideas and create DIYs, and those who like to follow instructions and grow some plants. We wanted both types of users to progress in the community and to be able to show what they’re doing. To achieve this we allowed users who complete DIYs to share their results and to attach them to original DIYs, so that users can be recognized not only for creating DIYs but also for great implementations.
Questions and Answers
A community of like minded people is a great place to ask for an advice and to get help. We integrated Q&A section into website to enable users to ask questions about plants and help others to solve their issues.
User profile is a place where users start their journey and we wanted to make this start smooth and fast. We have integrated social login with a number of popular Chinese social networks to streamline a sign up process and turned user profile page into a dashboard where users have access to a list of all their DIYs, result profiles, collections, questions, answers and followers.
